Before I get into this post, I recommend making sure that you’ve read my write up of Day 1 of our Adventures By Disney Montana adventure. Don’t worry if you haven’t read it yet! You can read it here then come back and read this post!
We were all up bright and early to get our first full day going! Once we were all showered and had all of our bags packed, we left them outside of our room so the hotel staff could take them and load them on the bus for us. A few minutes later, we all loaded ourselves on the bus and rode for a few minutes to eat breakfast at a local spot.
They had the whole restaurant closed for us and we helped ourselves to our food from a breakfast buffet. They had scrambled eggs, some breakfast meats, hash browns, and a giant fruit salad. Oh, and they also had some delicious looking cinnamon rolls which they made in-house from scratch. This restaurant was all about using locally sourced ingredients. The owner even told us where everything was from before we went inside the restaurant. I topped my plate with scrambled eggs, hash browns, and some fruit.
Once we had all eaten, our adventure guides led us all through a more thorough introduction now that our whole group was with us. They also talked to us about being an Adventure Insider and what it meant. Basically, after you complete an adventure with Adventures By Disney, you become an Adventure Insider. Since our family had gone on a river cruise last year with Adventures By Disney, we were already Adventure Insiders. All of the Adventure Insiders got a pin with the number of adventures you have been on with a fun Disney theme to it.
Speaking of pins, I didn’t mention it yet, but on each and every Adventures By Disney adventure, you are given a pin each day of your adventure that’s exclusive to your adventure and you can’t get it unless you go on that specific adventure. If you collect Disney pins, then you would love an Adventures By Disney vacation! I always love to fill up my lanyard that I was given at the beginning of the adventure with all of the pins that I get throughout the trip! It’s by far my favorite souvenir! I have both of my lanyards from my Adventures By Disney adventures hanging up in my room and I think it makes the best decor!
Ok… Now back to the trip!
After breakfast and introductions, everyone got back on the bus. The plan for our morning was to start off by seeing some of the Mammoth Hot Springs that we didn’t get to see the night before since we got rained out, then go on a bus ride around the park to see what animals we could find!
First, we rode on the bus to see more of the Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces in a little bit of a different area. They were incredible just like the night before. I was just so amazed by how colorful they were!
Next, it was time for our scenic ride around Lamar Valley which is one of the best places in all of Yellowstone to see wild animals! I’ve heard that Lamar Valley is the best place to see wolves too! Sadly, we didn’t see any wolves, but we sure did see a whole lot of bison and some other cool animals!
Speaking of bison, here’s a little bit of trivia! What is the scientific name of the American bison? Bison bison! Seriously, that’s it!
See those bison in the background? We saw so many more of them and other types of animals on our scenic bus ride!
I couldn’t believe how fast the morning went! Before I knew it, it was time to head to the place where we were going to ride a stagecoach to lunch!
We took a couple of stops on our way to use the restroom and take some pictures. One of the restroom stops was pretty close to a nice stream where all the kids took turns skipping rocks together while we waited for everyone to make their way through the bathroom line.
This is where Emmy met one of her friends that she hung out with the whole trip and I met one of my friends that I hung out with for the rest of the trip. We both ended up switching seats and sitting next to our friends on the bus.
When we got to the stagecoach place, we waited a couple of minutes then got on the stagecoach. Our whole group had two stagecoaches to ride on with most of the seating on the bottom and 5 or 6 seats on the top. I sat with my friend on top of one with my parents and Emmy on the bottom part. Maddie sat on the top of the second stagecoach.
The ride was a little bumpy but SO FUN! I had an amazing view from the top! We even saw a good amount of wildlife.
I would have been totally okay with the ride lasting longer, but I was also hungry and ready for lunch! At the airport the day before, we all got to choose whichever brown bag lunch that we wanted to eat. They gave us a lot of food and everyone had leftovers!
We had a little bit of time left over after eating so Emmy wanted me to take her to see the horses that drove our stagecoaches. By the time we had to leave, she had already learned both sets of horses’ names, ages, and anything else she could think to ask the people that drove the stagecoaches!
Then it was time to ride the stagecoaches back to the bus. Pretty much everybody sat in the same seats that we came out on. Again, it was another scenic ride.
Before we left on the stagecoach initially, we were warned of stagecoach robbers. Unfortunately/fortunately, we ran into a “reverse robber” on our way back! This reverse robber gave us our specialty Adventures By Disney pins for the day! I thought this was such a fun idea!
Soon, we were back to the bus and riding on our way to The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of it before, I hadn’t either! Also, this Grand Canyon really doesn’t look like the Arizona Grand Canyon at all! It sure was grand though!
Once we got there, our area specific tour guide led us through a mini hike down to some amazing viewing areas of the canyon itself and also to see Lower Falls, which is a waterfall in The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. It was a nice and easy walk with so many great picture spots!
After we spent some time at each of the viewing areas, we started the walk back up to the bus, which once again, was pretty short.
Our last stop of the day was to Under Canvas Yellowstone. This is where we spent the next two nights glamping!
I really didn’t know what to expect before we got there. I thought that we would be completely without cell service and no power. Once we got there, I quickly figured out that that was NOT how it was going to be! The cell service was actually really good… It might have even been better than some areas at home! Our adventure guides even gave us battery packs to charge our electronics once we got there. When we got to our tents, we saw that they even gave us a few more battery packs to use during our stay.
Since it was raining when we got there, every family was taken in a golf cart separately to their tents. We had a couple of hours before we had to leave for dinner, which I’m sure most everybody used to rest after our early wake-up call and busy day!
Dinner was on the other side of the property so we called for a golf cart to give us a ride. Dinner was BBQ food served inside! I had some Caesar salad, potato salad, and a portobello mushroom patty “burger”. It was a really good meal!
After everyone had eaten, we headed outside to roast some smores and sit around the campfire!
It was a little bit cold outside so that campfire was perfect to help me warm up!
My mom and sister are vegan so they weren’t expecting to be able to have smores because traditional marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers aren’t vegan. When we got outside, our adventure guides told them that they had gotten vegan versions of all the smores ingredients just so they could have smores too! I thought that was such a nice touch and I know they were happy to hear this!
After smores were finished, we decided to just walk back to our tent because it was so nice out!
My dad and I didn’t eat any smores so we kept walking past our tent and to the lobby to get a snack. Everyone had to keep all of their snacks in the lobby in case a bear were to get hungry and decide to go into your tent to get a snack! It hasn’t happened there before, but it sure is a nice precaution to take!
We both ate our snack then walked back to our tent where everyone else was either asleep or getting ready to go to sleep. We called one of the Under Canvas employees for help turning on our pellet stove which did a great job of keeping our tent warm throughout the night even when the temperatures dropped low.
I got to sleep as soon as I could because we had lots more fun things to do the next day. In the morning, we were going to see the Fountain Paint Pot Trail, Grand Prismatic, see an eruption of Old Faithful Geyser, eat lunch somewhere near Old Faithful, do some biking, and have dinner with all of the other kids!
I had an amazing day 2 and I was SO excited for day 3!
